CALL FOR PAPERS ON INTERNATIONAL SOCIAL JUSTICE CONFERENCE

Theme:

"Global Challenges and Responsibilities"

Makassar, 12 December 2015

We live in an age of globalization, meaning that we are in various ways linked to distant people. Globalization poses new challenges for social justice. The impact of our collective actions, in the form of consumption, production, banking, travelling, etc.
Transcends national borders and this means that the scope of our responsibility is becoming broader. The climate crisis, the financial crisis, the food crisis, and the Ebola crisis are evidences of our global interdependence and of the vulnerability of and within the present world order.

One pivotal challenges of globalization is that national sovereignty is hollowing and the states tend to losing control. Important economic and political decisions shaping the future of societies are taken less and less at a domestic level and more and more at a global level within global institutions and corporations.  In addition, since economic globalization affects how wealth and power is globally distributed, it has become indispensable to discuss social justice in a global context and to develop principles of social justice. Thisv condition raises some fundamental questions as following. Who would be responsible to cope all global challenges in the frame of social justice?. What are roles of states, local governments, local NGOS, interest groups, community organizations and citizens to be involved for ensuring social justice and responding those global challenges ?.

For discussing possible answers from those questions, we need an excellent forum for all scholars, professionals, activists, policy makers, and citizens to come together and share the ideas and information, to provide a sound knowledge base to learn from each other about sharing responsibilities to respond the global challenges.

The conference will include panels on global and regional perspectives of social justice issues.
